Lake District Pound

WHAT IS THE LAKE DISTRICT POUND?

The LD£ is a ‘local currency’ that will be available for you to enjoy during your holiday.  Lake District £s are equal in value to Sterling pounds and are a fun way of supporting local businesses and attractions during your stay.

WHERE CAN I BUY THEM?

You can purchase your pounds today by phoning Heart of the Lakes on 015394 32321. We can add your LD£ to an existing booking for when you arrive or you can just pay over the phone and we will send them straight to you. LD£s are accepted in participating local businesses and attractions alongside the usual Sterling and change can be given in either LD£ or Sterling.

WHAT WILL I GET?

Your ‘starter’ pack is worth £50 and will come with a variation of notes note. You can order multiple packs of £50 each. You may also wish to obtain a LD£ passport from the local post office so that you can collect the unique stamps – every participating business has a different one!

WHERE CAN I SPEND THEM?

You can spend your LD£s in local businesses where you see the LD£ sign. All businesses that accept the LD£ are unique to the Lake District or founded in the Lake District, locally owned and locally trading. So when you use your LD£ in these businesses you know that you ae supporting our local communities.

HOW LONG ARE THE LAKES DISTRICT POUNDS VALID FOR?

This is an annual currency – new designs will be issued in December every year and remain valid until the end of January of the following year. They cannot be spent after that date.

CAN I SWAP MY LD£s BACK IF I DON’T WANT TO KEEP THEM?

Yes! It’s easy to exchange your LD£s at one of our participating Post Offices or other LD£ exchange points any time during their year of validity. You can swap them for Sterling or for next year’s LD£s.

WHAT HAPPENS TO MY MONEY IF I KEEP IT AS A MOMENTO?

Every LD£ you choose to keep as a memento funds projects that look after our landscapes and local communities. It’s a fun way to give back and help keep the Lake District special for future generations.
